ABOUT

Martin Robson has worked as a freelance singer for over three decades, performing on concert platforms and operatic stages throughout Europe and further afield in repertoire ranging from medieval plainsong to new operatic works.

Solo work has taken him to all the major European countries as well as America, Israel, China, Japan, Korea, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico in addition to performances for choirs and festivals in Britain.  Martin has broadcast for Westdeutscher Rundfunk, BBC Radio 3, Radio France and Dutch Radio amongst others, and recorded the role of Father Trulove on the Grammy-winning CD of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress for Deutsche Grammophon and Stravinsky’s Threni with the London Philharmonia, conducted by Robert Craft.

His vocal range and flexibility allow him to negotiate the intricacies of Bach and Handel, but he also has the power and projection needed for works such as Verdi’s Requiem and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius.  His singing has been described as “noble” (The Times), “la belle voix basse” (La Provence), “very expressive” (Rheinhard Goebel, Musica Antiqua Koln) “impressive” and “really excellent” (Sir Charles Mackerras).

Future work includes recitals with Piers Maxim with whom also be releasing a series of songs online.  The award-winning composer Liz Dilnot Johnson (www.lizdilnotjohnson.co.uk) is currently writing a song cycle for him.
